Dr. Richard has special credentials in the following areas:
PAIN MEDICINE
Regarding Dr. Richard's qualifications in pain medicine, Dr. Richard is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management. She has reviewed the world's literature on traumatic torticollis (tiled head from trauma). She has developed the cure for Dystonia Torticollis. There had been no cure that has been reported in the literature that was found to be effective without side effects in early cases before Dr. Richard's chapter was published. Traumatic Torticollis / Dystonia; is tiled neck syndrome that results from injury. Dr. Richard has presented new information at the American Academy of Pain Management's Annual Scientific Program in Washington, D. C. in September, 1996. In addition Dr. Richard writes some of the Questions used for the Board Certification Exam in Pain Management. That is the exam that doctors take to be Board Certified in Pain Management.
MEDICAL ACUPUNCTURE
Regarding MEDICAL ACUPUNCTURE, Dr. Richard received her first introduction to medical acupuncture as a medical student at Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital where Dr. Richard received her M.D. degree. She was introduced to acupuncture by Dr. Teruo Matsumoto. Dr. Matsumoto was Chief of Surgery & Surgical Reasearch and wrote Acupuncture for Physicians; the first book in English for doctors. Since then, Dr. Richard has received additional special training in the field and is Fellow of the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture. Additionally, Dr. Richard is a Diplomate and Advanced Clinical Fellow of the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture. Furthermore, she has trained with the American College of Acupuncture and the American Academy of Acupuncture with the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary Institute for Continuing Medical Education. Dr. Richard is a board certified Diplomate in Medical Acupuncture with training in Japanese, Chinese and Korean methods.
Dr. Richard has training on the Chinese methods of Medical Acupuncture. The Japanese methods of Medical Acupuncture, German Auricular Acupuncture and Korean Hand Acupuncture. Her office has state of the art electrodiagnostic equipment as well. Dr. Richard has published in this field. The title of her article most recently published is "Acupuncture for Reduction of Post Trauma
Medication" published in the prestigious medical Journal, MEDICAL ACUPUNCTURE, Volume l3, No. l, Page 38 through 39.
NEUROLOGY
Dr. Richard has written a text NEUROLOGY FOR ATTORNEYS and has lectured at seminars in Connecticut, New York, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Florida.
ORTHOPEDICS
Dr. Richard has made landmark medical contributions relating to wound healing and fractures.
TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINTS
She has special training in dentistry. In addition to being a gradute of the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine in Farmington, CT., Dr. Richard has done research as a Fellow in Craniofacial disorders at the University of Connecticut. She has both consulted for
and completed the New York University College of Dentistry, TMJ Craniomandibular Disorder Program.
Regarding temporomandibular joint disorders, she has used her background in medicine and dentistry as a medicl doctor and dentist. Her residency training program in internal medicine and general surgery as well as the dental aspects of temporomandibular joint disorders through New York University College of Dentistry and the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine where she was a Fellow in Craniofacial Disorders has prepared her uniquely to treat these patients. TMJ disorders are a medical problem requiring expertise in both medicine and dentistry. The jaw joint system is intimately connected with the middle ear and central nervous system and there are many disorders that can cause TM joint problems such as Lyme disease, systemic arthritic problems and systemic inflammatory conditions of the body in addition to direct trauma to the jaw joint system. Occupational problems can cause TMJ problems as well.
Dr. Richard's unique background positions her to be one of the best qualified doctors-in diagnosis and treatment of TMJ disorders
Dr. Richard has presented new medical information at the International Symposium on Arthroscopy of the Temporomandibular Joints on November l5 and l6, in New York City. The presentation was on new medical information concerning TMJ neuropathy-Myelopathy following electric burn to the extremities.
In the spring and summer issue of the TMJDIARY JOURNAL of the American Academy of Facial Pain, Dr. Richard published an article entitled "Potential Drug Interactions Faced Daily". This was an article on the consequences of doing procedures on patients who were on multiple medications and
understand the potential for problems caused by drug interactions; 1995.
EMERGENCY ROOM RECORDS
Because Dr. Richard has certifications in both Internal Medicine and General Surgery, she has worked as an Emergency Room Trauma physician and dentist. This is extremely important in analyzing the medical records of patients who have treated at Emergency Rooms in different hospitals.
Dr. Richard has made landmark medical discoveries in Hematology, Metabolism and Orthopedics and has received distinguished Awards in these medical areas.
AEROSPACE/AVIATION MEDICINE
Regarding Dr. Richard's qualifications in aviation medicine, she is a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Aerospace Medical Association-Space Medicine Branch. She has been certified by The Federal Aviation Administration as a Senior FAA Medical Examiner. For eleven years, until she retired from this position, she evaluated pilots for
their medical competency to fly for the FAA. Now Dr. Richard is an Independent Medical Consultant on matters of aviation medicine.
Dr. Richard is licensed as a medical doctor and a dentist. Dr. Richard not only kept up with the latest medical information but through her publications has contributed to the development of new information. Through her publications and seminars she has been a teacher to her colleagues.
She has both taught and educated her colleagues.
